How to Invest in Education
Facilities are one of the biggest barriers to the growth of charter schools. Building Hope provides a range of solutions including pro bono technical assistance, low-cost subordinate loans, and turnkey development of lease-to-own facilities for charter schools. These efforts are supported by socially motivated investors through philanthropic grants, low-cost loans to schools, and private equity in real estate transactions. These three investment opportunities are highlighted below.
- Corporations and foundations can make grants to Building Hope to provide pro bono technical assistance to charter schools during the planning phase of their facilities
- Foundations can make program-related-investments (PRIs) in Building Hope to increase the pool of subordinate loan capital available to charter schools. Individuals can also make low-cost, subordinate loans to schools to replace the need for equity. New schools rarely have funds for the down payment for a facility.
- Individuals can make private equity investments for the acquisition and development of charter school real estate projects developed by Building Hope.
