Facility Development: Project Management

Building Hope has been a partner of DC Prep’s since the school’s beginning when it provided financing in 2003 to allow the school to grow from a single middle school.

In December 2012, DC Prep partnered again with Building Hope to manage the renovation and expansion of its Benning Elementary School campus to add a middle school.  The project was part of the Charter School Incubator Initiative, a partnership between the Office of State Superintendent of Education and Building Hope to provide move-in-ready space to start-up or replicating charter schools.

The Benning campus expansion project included a renovation of the existing 70,000 square foot elementary school building and a 34,000 square foot middle school addition.  The $20 million project was completed in August 2014 and serves students in Pre-K through sixth grade.  The school will add a grade each year through eighth grade.

Today DC Prep is one of the highest-performing Charter Management Organization in the nation’s capital — now serving 1,200 students on four campuses.
